Keeping families together when they need it most

Why family stays

We believe that “home” is more than four walls and a roof over your head. That’s why every Ronald McDonald House provides families with all the comforts of home, plus the compassion of staff, volunteers, and other families – all just steps away from the hospital, so they can focus on what matters most – caring for their ill or injured child.

When the best medical treatment for a child is far from home, families don’t have worry about where to stay. At a Ronald McDonald House, families can be together, enjoy home-cooked meals and receive compassionate hospitality and support from staff and volunteers – making their journey a little easier.

How family stays

Our 17 Houses across Australia allow families to stay together, close to the hospital and remain at the heart of their child’s healthcare.

Families have access to private rooms, shared kitchens, laundry and meals, office spaces, play areas and welcoming communal spaces, providing comfort away from home. Supported by compassionate volunteers, staff and other families on similar journeys, families can feel connected, strong and cared for, focusing on being together and caring for their ill or injured child, rather than the stress and cost of travelling long distances.

365 Days of the Year We are Here

We are here 365 days of the year – when families need us most.

Ronald McDonald House Orange opened for families in April 2015, with the first family staying on April 24th 2015.

The House supports families of seriously ill or injured children receiving treatment in Orange at one of three hospitals – Bloomfield, Orange Health Service and Dudley.

The Ronald McDonald House has been built within the grounds of Bloomfield campus, within 275 metres from the rear entrance of Orange Hospital. Our ‘home away from home’ is surrounded by playing fields, a golf driving range, swimming pool and has a canopy of established trees that attract many native species of birds and animals. The House has been designed around the trees which adds to the comfort that it brings our families who stay with us.

The House in Orange is located 275 metres walk from the rear entrance of Orange Health Service. We are directly opposite Western Care Lodge and diagonally across from the car park entrance to the Orange Country Club.

We welcome families referred through their Health Care team to either stay with us whilst their child receives care and treatment or visit us via our new ‘Day Pass’ program.

Please read through both options below to find out more about Ronald McDonald House in Orange on how we help families stay close to treatment when they need it most.

Where do our families come from?

The Western Local Health District region has a population of approximately 285,000 people stretching from the edge of the Blue Mountains to Bourke.

Our two major health centres are located in Dubbo and Orange providing the Western NSW community access to treatment including various Specialists offerings that allow patients the ability to stay closer to home where possible, before having to travel to metro areas for the same service.

Families also come to us from outside the Western Region if their child needs to access specialist care in Orange.
